Policy Innovation Lab

Join our cohort of “Emerging Policy Leaders of 2022”

Public policy needs innovation. Those who will solve some of the most complex problems faced by humankind will need to develop essential skills and an understanding of how public policy, technology, sustainable development, politics, and international relations work together.

Our 4-week Policy Innovation Lab brings together expert policymakers, policy entrepreneurs, and sustainability experts to train a younger generation of students to solve some of the most complex problems facing our world such as climate change, poverty, international terrorism, nuclear capability imbalance, the impact of technology on human lives.

Most of the problems in the world we face are “Complex Adaptive Problems”. This means that their solutions have many inter-related parts, and addressing one part of the problem may, in turn, create newer problems. Formulating solutions to these problems in a manner that results in holistic change through new processes, services, and products is what we mean by Policy Innovation.

Why is it important?

Much of public policy and sustainable development ideas are top-down mandates which find little resonance on the ground. What happens at COP26 may not immediately change the lives of people in our neighborhoods.

For real change to take place, we need a different kind of thought process. We need people who can think critically and innovatively to address local problems to fulfil global agendas. The world needs entrepreneurs who can align policies with the cultural, demographic and political as well as technological contexts of a given place.

Many in the younger generations are passionate about bringing about meaningful change but lack the tools to navigate the complex ecosystem of public policy, politics, sustainability, and diplomacy.

Our vision is to expose a generation to real challenges and innovative ideas at a young age so that they grow up to be impactful policymakers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and statesmen in their own right to make this world a better place.

What are the sets of knowledge and skills policy entrepreneurs need to have to be successful in the 21st century?

  • Understanding macro trends shaping the world

  • Converting ideas into pragmatic solutions

  • Systems and Design Thinking

  • Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Risk assessment

  • Understanding investment infrastructure

  • Understanding the policy landscape

  • Sustainable practices

  • Effective writing and communication
